Most of us associate seaweed with the sheets of nori used to wrap sushi, but it can be so much more! We leverage the savory umami flavor of certain species to make jerky and kelp burgers, while relying on the natural sweetness of others to flavor our tangy, delicious crisps. And this only scratches the surface of what's possible.
Sea veggies are a bona fide superfood packed full of vitamins and minerals. And many species have additional health benefits, to boot. For example, kombu helps fight weight gain by reducing the rate of fat absorption, and is known to reduce hypertension. And laver is one of the best non-animal sources of protein available.
We respect our oceans and genuinely care about California’s diverse coastal ecosystem, so we only use sustainable, low-impact foraging practices. We hand-pick all our sea veggies, harvesting them in a way that promotes regrowth and does not interfere with their reproductive cycles, and make sure to leave plenty for future generations.
